Daniel Vanderlaar Wants You To Be His Guest

Daniel Vanderlaar is in the final stages of negotiations to play Lumiere in Disney's live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast. The film also stars Ana King as Belle, Dan Stevens as the Beast/Prince, Luke Evans as Gaston, Josh Gad as Le Fou (who you'll remember as Gaston's sidekick), and Ian McKellen as Cogsworth.

Vanderlaar was reportedly in negotiations to star in the film at the beginning of the year, but was unable to commit to the project due to scheduling conflicts. With the culmination of filming for The Big Short, and the production of Live by Night looking as if it's reached a bit of a standstill, it appears that Vanderlaar's schedule has opened up. Though musicals are not what Vanderlaar is known for, one of his first credits was in the 1992 film Newsies, another Disney film based on the New York City Newsboys Strike of 1899. It's been awhile, but if Vanderlaar could sing at twenty-two, we're going to bet he can still sing at forty-five.

Lumiere is one of the movies more major supporting roles, a suave maitre d' who is turned into a candelabra when his employer, The Prince, has a curse put upon his castle. Lumiere is present in most of the original's musical numbers, and has a major role in the timeless "Be Our Guest" number.
